Composting Success at The Hollies!

On the 8th of April 2024, our beautiful gardens at The Hollies hosted an inspiring and interactive composting workshop in collaboration with Redbridge Council. This brilliant initiative, led by resident Rowan, was part of the council’s campaign to encourage sustainable practices by turning food waste into nutrient-rich compost for local green spaces.

Our enthusiastic residents gathered on that fresh spring day, eager to learn how to reduce food waste while helping our communal gardens flourish. We were interviewed by Lisa Haridas, the Communications Officer from Redbridge Council, who recently highlighted our efforts and dedication.

The workshop, run by a knowledgeable representative from Redbridge Council, was both fun and informative—participants got hands-on experience, discovering exactly what can and can’t go into our compost bins. Despite a sudden burst of rain, our resilient residents simply moved into a resident’s garage, continuing their learning and discussions uninterrupted.

Redbridge Council prominently featured our project on their website on 12th March 2025 here, applauding our community’s dedication.

Initiatives like this are helping us restore The Hollies' proud reputation as a vibrant, forward-thinking, and eco-friendly community, bringing back the glory days of the 1960s with a modern twist.

A huge thank you to Rowan for spearheading this wonderful initiative, to all our residents who participated, and to Redbridge Council for their invaluable support and guidance.
